How This Site Works

CampusBookSwap.com helps you buy and sell used textbooks and helps both buyers and sellers save money in the process.

If you try to sell your used textbooks back to the bookstore, you'll probably only get a small fraction back of what you paid for the book. You can often get more for your book by selling it to another student. Similarly, if you try to buy a used book from the bookstore, you'll often end up paying nearly as much as the new price of the book. You can often get the same used book for less by buying it from another student.

We don't handle the sale of books, instead our bulletin board system helps buyers and sellers to find each other. You post the books that you want to sell, and then interested students will contact you if they want to buy your books. You can search the books that other students have posted to find ones that you want to buy.

The books are sorted by school, so that once you've signed in, the books you see listed are only the ones posted by other students at your school.

Posting Books

Click on "Post Books" and enter the requested information about your book. Be clear and detailed about the content about the book. When setting the price, a good rule of thumb is to set a price that is somewhere midway between how much you would get for the book if you sold it back to the bookstore, and how much a student would have to pay to buy a used copy from the bookstore.

Once you've posted your book, it's there for other students to see. If a student wants to buy your book, he or she will email you to express their interest and set up a meeting to buy the book.

Searching for Books

Click on "Search Books" and then look for the books you need. You can search by Title, Author, or ISBN number (this is the number just above the barcode on the book). You also have the option to see a full list of all the books posted at your school, and you can then browse through those books.

If you see a book you want more information about, click on the book to see the owner's comments and email address. If you want to buy the book, email the owner and set up a meeting to buy the book.

Using Your Account

To use the most important features of the site, including buying or posting books, we require users to register. This helps us ensure the quality of the book selection posted on the site and also allows you to have your own personal account to help you track the books you've posted.

We use your email address as your user name. It's also the way that potential buyers will contact you if they're interested in buying the books you post.

To access your account information, click on "My Account." From this page, you can change your account email address or password. This page also shows you all the books you currently have posted on the site. You can edit your postings if you need to update the price or information for a book. You can also remove a book from the site once it's been sold.
